Steel trench shields are static implements that accept a trench cave-in, as opposed to a hydraulic systems which prevent a cave-in.  Steel trench shields are designed to prevent lateral movement of soil.  Steel trench shields are one of the heavier shoring systems and require proper equipment to install the system.

Steel trench shields are made in a wide array of sizes and can be custom engineered to meet specific jobsite requirements.  Steel trench shields common in standard 4, 6 and 8 feet tall configurations with lengths ranging from 8 feet to over 32 feet. Steel trench shields also have varying wall thickness ranging from 3 inches thick to over 8 inches.  The wall’s depth helps to provide additional strength at greater depths and thus the larger boxes normally employ either 6 or 8 inch walls to provide the necessary support.  Steel trench shields are available in single and double wall configurations, although CTS chiefly stocks double wall shields.  Single walls provide a lighter lifting weight; however, do not have the greater depth capacities of a double wall shield, which is why CTS stocks double wall shields for its rental fleet.  The shields are available with either flat bottoms or knife-edge bottoms depending upon the needs of the customer.

Steel trench shields are one of the most common shoring devices employed in daily practice.  The shields can be used in pit applications, pipe laying, manholes and many other projects.

Coble Trench Safety proudly rents and sells SBH North America, Speed Shore, Efficiency and Cerda trench shields.
