The
Scenario
The primary challenge with the project would be
shoring around the crossing utilities. While
the presence of the crossing utilities was known
prior to digging, the exact location would not be
known until the area had been excavated. In
addition, since the project would halt road traffic
there was heavy pressure to finish the project very
quickly.
The
Solution
Brett Sondergard met with the contractor initially
to determine a preliminary game plan with regards to
the excavation. Since the crossing utilities
placement would not be known until the excavation
began, it wouldn't be possible to select a system
until that point. Nonetheless, the contractor
knew that hydraulic vertical shoring would be the
system of choice around the crossing utilities,
coupled with a steel trench shield if crossing
utility placement allowed. Hydraulic vertical
shores are very flexible and can be contoured to
meet an excavation's specific needs and thus present
perfect system when faced with most crossing utility
applications.
When the excavation
began, Brett was on-site after the utilities were
unearthed and assisted with the shoring design
around the utilities. After reviewing the
shoring requirements with the superintendent, Brett
scheduled the prompt delivery of the necessary sized
vertical shores and a steel trench shield since
there would be a long run uninterrupted by crossing
utilities. The communication throughout the
project allowed Brett to slot a delivery to the
jobsite location despite a lack of information
regarding the exact equipment needs.
Additionally, Coble Trench Safety vast inventory of
trench safety equipment ensured that whatever the
equipment needs were for the project, it would be
available.
The contractor was
very satisfied with the knowledge and ability of
Coble Trench Safety. Beyond the capability of
the staff, the most impressive aspect of the project
for the contractor was the speed of service and the
flexibility to work around his needs.
